You can never go wrong with garlic bread. They are always a welcome addition to any meal. If I were to decide, I could have only garlic bread for the entire meal.
In its basic form, it is so simple, you only need bread, garlic, and fat.
If you use vegan butter you should mix the garlic (and the other ingredients you might fancy) and then spread it evenly on the bread before toasting it in the oven. In this post, I have used olive oil but you could really use any fat you like, olive oil is a good fat source though as I have written in this post about fat and why you need to eat it.
Garlic bread is so versatile, you can add almost any herb to the mix. If you add parsley you get a little bit more of the middle-eastern taste, and if you add basil you gravitate toward bruschetta and the Mediterranean cuisine.
It doesn’t hurt that garlic bread only takes about 10-15 minutes to make so you can always serve them fresh from the oven when they taste the most and best. Just cover the bread in fat and then spread the garlic evenly across, add some salt & pepper and pop into the oven for about 10 minutes and you are ready to go.
In this post, I used a baguette as bread but you can use white toast or whole wholemeal loaf or whatever bread you like really. I prefer baguettes though because they tend to be more crispy than other bread when you toast them and I like that texture when I eat garlic bread.
Last but not least, don’t be shy about the amount of garlic. Lean towards the extreme end when deciding how much you are going to use.
This garlic bread is ready in no-time and is a great addition to almost any dish.
- Bread (baguette, white toast, wholemeal, choose the one you like the most)
- Olive oil extra virgin
Preheat the oven to 220 °C / 425 °F / Gas Mark 7.
Put the bread in an oven safe form and drizzle the oil over them.
Spread out the minced garlic evenly on the bread.
Add some salt & pepper.
Toast for about 10 minutes in the oven or until the bread is crispy and golden brown.
