Let the mind drift off and imagine yourself on a beach somewhere only you know, the skin feels a little tight after a full day in the sun. You decide to get back to your beach hut and just chill out in the hammock for a while, reading a book or magazine, listening to the ocean, just taking it all in. After some time, you don’t know exactly how long, you feel a bit thirsty and a little bit hungry. You reach out your arm and voila you have a Pineapple Papaya Orange Tofu Smoothie in your hand.
Well, that would be awesome, but let’s get real, more often you need something quick and fast, maybe after a workout. Then this tofu smoothie is perfect for you. Adding tofu to a smoothie is something I have really grown fond of, not only does it make the smoothie rich and creamy, it adds all the proteins you need to lead that healthy lifestyle.
Some people find papaya to taste as soap, and to be honest, I was one of them up until recently. You need to try the different kinds of papaya until you find the one that is sweet and non-soap tasting (unless you like the soap taste). The one I use if fairly big, have green skin and orange to red flesh and the seed captivity inside is rather large.
A quick tip on how to cut the pineapple
I learned a neat trick from a friendly lady when I lived in Bangladesh. She taught me how to properly dice a mango and how to cut a pineapple without making a complete mess and also not ruin the entire fruit. I’m forever grateful for this life-changing knowledge and I will here pass on the pineapple cutting knowledge to you. Some of you probably already know this, but this was a life hack model 2.0 on my part.
First, cut the pineapple into quarters, then use a sharp knife to cut out triangles down to the inner part of the peel. Now, if the pineapple is ripe enough you are able to break off the triangle parts with ease. If you feel that they are clinging on to the peel, then cut them loose using your knife.
Easy enough, but I would never have thought of that myself.
Now that you know, there is nothing stopping you from making this pineapple papaya orange tofu smoothie!
How do you cut your pineapple? Let me know in the comments!
A tropical flavoured, protein-rich, creamy vegan smoothie.
- 1/4 pineapple fresh
- 2 1/2 dl (1 cup) papaya diced
- 2 dl (2/3 cup) orange juice
- 300 g silken tofu
Put everything in a blender and mix until smooth.
Note: You don’t have to squeeze the oranges yourself (even though that is really nice and tastes delicious); you can buy the orange juice. Just make sure it is good quality orange juice, we don’t want to put some extract or weird chemical flavoured thing in the smoothie.
